Children and Wills

Having children is such a magical time in life, and for some it marks the start of a family. When you hear the news that you are expecting, you get so caught up in buying clothes, diapers, food, furniture, and decorating and planning. Getting caught up in all the excitement can mean that you forget something equally, if not more important, and this is updating (or creating) a will to include you children/future children.

It is estimated that only around 30% of adults with dependant children have a will, meaning that 70% of parents don’t have a will. Although it may seem morbid to consider, it is important.

Having a will for your children/future children means you can designate who you want as guardians for your children, should the worst happen. This means you can have your say, and this could stop any family disputes that could arise. You can also decide how you want your assets, and inheritance sorted. You may decide you want your children to keep certain items or assets, or that they can't access assets until they reach a certain age. By including unborn/future children, you can "future proof" your will to include any and all children you have, to save you from having to update it each time, which can save you both time and money.

If you don’t have a will, you essentially don’t have a say on what happens after you pass. Maybe you want you children to be looked after by certain grandparents, you only want them to have access to  inheritance upon a certain birthday, etc. Without a will you don’t have a voice, and this could lead to all sorts of complications, prolonging the emotional time for your families and loved ones.

Wills are not necessarily difficult to create and you can buy kits or do them online for free; although this isn’t advised, as a will is a legal document, and any error could cause big issues. It is best to get the help from a local lawyer who will have extensive knowledge of last will and testaments and local laws.

In the US you can use any number of online sources to local a local attorney, such as If your looking for will solicitors from Milton Keynes in the UK, then Neves Solicitors from Milton Keynes could help you, and you can find out more on their website.

Our favorite baby shower or new baby gifts include special, one-of-a-kind gifts that shower a mama-to-be or new baby with love. 4 Favorite Cribs: Wood Finish Edition

We love all things interiors and interior decorating ... and one of our favorite rooms to decorate? The nursery, of course. A crib is a major nursery purchase, it is often a focal point so it needs to look nice but obviously function is of utmost importance.

Our 4 favorite wood finish cribs are (clockwise from upper left) the Oeuf Rhea Crib, the IKEA Sniglar crib, the Puj Caravan crib, and Nursery Works Highlight crib. Each of these options is highly functional, quality-made and design forward. With prices ranging from $69.99 (the IKEA Sniglar) to $3900 (the Nursery Works Highlight) there is literally an option for every price point.

Take a look at these fabulous nurseries we found featuring these cribs:

Next week we will share our favorite painted/color finished cribs!

In the Customer's Home: London Baby Girl

Our REMEMBER the days™ are international. Mari and her husband, Jackson, are living in London for Jackson's work but when they had Vivienne last year Mari knew she needed a REMEMBER the day™ to complete Vivi's nursery. And what a beautiful nursery it is, with a palette of a vibrant fuschia, gold, green, petal pink, and orange. It sounds extra bright, but comes off surprisingly super-feminine. We, of course, made the REMEMBER the day™ to match that color palette. It looks gorgeous in Vivi's room. Thank you for the photo, Mari!

We have shared several customer photos over the past couple of weeks on our Instagram ...

In the Customer's Home: Large Format REMEMBER the day™

Although not listed in our shop, we can do larger sizes of REMEMBER the days™. For our fine art prints, 8x10" is our standard size and this size is perfect for easily finding a frame, displaying among family photos or on a print wall, and fits most needs well. Our standard size canvas is 12x12" with a 1.5" deep gallery edge. Again, this size fits well in most situations.

Sometimes you might need a BIGGER REMEMBER the day™ for some reason, like in the photo above from a customer. Cara wanted a poster-sized REMEMBER the day™ so that the piece would be more of a focal point in the room. She choose the Skitch typeface and we created a custom color palette to match her eclectic space (namely, that gorgeous vintage rug). Cara also opted for a simpler REMEMBER the day™ ... instead of including all the usual information, she wanted only names, date, and city/state. The result is a perfect poster-like REMEMBER the day™.

If you are interested in a large format print or canvas, contact us to discuss your project and to get pricing.

Lonny magazine is such a great source for interior inspiration. I came across this nursery from designer Estee Stanley's renovation of 1920s Spanish Colonial home in L.A's Brentwood neighborhood. I love the aesthetic of the whole house (see it in the August 2012 issue of Lonny) which keeps true to the original character of the home, but is elevated to laid-back luxury. There is a little industrial feel to it, but still traditional in the best sense.

The home's nursery, is an especially cozy retreat, with a wood beam ceiling and french doors. The nursery has a decidedly laid-back feel, in a palette of greys and dusty blue, along with some dark wood tones compliments of the ceiling and floor.

You can get the look of this nursery - I hunted down the pieces in the room and similar ones!

Wedding Inspired REMEMBER the day™

Here's a gorgeous wedding I came across on Style Me Pretty. That bouquet caught my attention immediately and I had to make a REMEMBER the day™ inspired by it and the wedding.

Nursery Inspired REMEMBER the day™ Baby Rhino Nursery

This Baby Rhino Nursery was a part of The Animal Print Shop's Nursery Project. I just LOVE this nursery; it is a lovely mixture of new and found pieces. Everything is just on point: the built-in shelves, that amazing vintage rug, that light fixture, the soft gray paint color, and the artwork. However, if there was one thing this nursery was missing, it is a REMEMBER the day. So, I imagined this nursery was for a sweet little Amelia and took it upon myself to create her a REMEMBER the day™ that complements her room perfectly.

I choose the Pluto typeface and created a color palette based upon the colors in the room ... a bright purple (the edging on the blanket in the crib), a deep indigo/black (similar to the spots on the rug), a teal (from the tapestry and vintage chair), a gray (inspired by the wall color and dresser), and a coral (a pop of color borrowed from some of the items on the shelving). I find that color palettes of 4-5 colors work best for REMEMBER the days™ - any more than five is too much and any less four is not enough.
